The U.S. Intelligence Community in recent weeks allegedly picked up a credible threat from the Iranian regime about a plot to assassinate former President Trump.
According to Fox News, U.S. authorities were warned about the alleged assassination plot weeks before the deadly shooting in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Two government sources told Fox that the Department of Homeland Security, the Secret Service and others in the Intelligence Community received intel on the alleged plot through a “very good human source.”
The alleged Iranian plot does not seem at this point to be related to Thomas Matthew Crooks’ assassination attempt.
DHS claims that in response to the increased threat, Secret Service protection at Trump’s outdoor rallies was beefed up.
However, the Biden regime’s advance knowledge of a credible Iranian threat does not track with the level of protection Trump received at his rally in Pennsylvania.
“It does pose the question, if security was increased to former President Trump because of this alleged plot out of Iran, how did this happen on Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania?” Fox News’ Justice Department correspondent David Spunt said during a televised report on the breaking news.
“Why would you leave the roof uncovered if you knew–had concerns about the president’s security? It’s mind-boggling!” Fox anchor John Roberts exclaimed.
Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) is challenging the Biden regime’s claim that Trump’s Secret Service detail was increased in recent weeks, telling Fox on Tuesday that agents directly involved with protecting Trump were “frustrated, angry and upset” about the lack of adequate protection for the Republican presidential nominee.
Waltz said they repeatedly asked U.S.S.S. headquarters for more resources for Trump’s detail and were denied.
“And then [DHS Secretary] Mayorkas goes on CNN and says Congressman Waltz is irresponsible and that’s false. Which he is saying essentially his own agents are wrong,” the former Green Beret Commander said, adding: “we will get to the bottom of it.”
House Republicans have launched an investigation into the near assassination of Trump and have asked Secret Service Chief Kimberly Cheatle to testify before the Oversight Committee.
The Federalist’s Sean Davis reported on X Saturday evening that a source familiar with Trump’s security detail told him that the agents had been asking for increased protection and resources for weeks, but had been “rebuffed time and again by Biden’s DHS.”
The source said DHS, which oversees Secret Service protective detail “wasn’t responsive to those requests” for more resources. Davis said.
Senator Mike Lee posted on X Tuesday evening that he was hearing the same thing. “I have it on good authority that Trump’s security detail repeatedly asked Secret Service for more resources to protect Trump over the last two years,” Lee wrote. “Those requests were repeatedly denied.”
“I give nothing but credit for his those in the detail [who] put their lives on the line,” Waltz told Fox News. “I suspect strongly this was a headquarters resources issue, who said we’re not going to get all these agents for all of his rallies. We’re not going to exhaust our budget.”
Waltz also slammed Biden for not firing Cheatle after her monumental failure to protect Trump at his rally Saturday.
“[There was] no accountability for Afghanistan, no accountability for the Defense Secretary disappearing, and no accountability for this,” he said.
Update:
Congress expected to be briefed by the Secret Service Tuesday, but the briefing was cancelled at the last minute, according to House Republicans.
“Mayorkas’s DHS has commandeered their [USSS] communications and refuses to confirm a time,” said Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) on X. “This corrupt administration has stonewalled Republicans’ investigations at every turn. We will not back down.”
