A group of Democrat megadonors have put the largest pro-Biden super PAC, Future Forward, on notice that they will put on hold $90 million in pledged donations as long as Joe Biden remains on the ticket, according to the New York Times.
The contributions were frozen after Biden’s “big boy” news conference Thursday evening reportedly failed to allay the Democrats’ concerns about his political viability.
Fox News meanwhile reported Friday that a “coordinated Democrat rebellion” against Biden is about to unfold for “a brutal 48 hours.”
Biden performed better at the presser than many expected, although he often slurred his words, appeared confused at times, and delivered numerous gaffes, chief among them his reference to Kamala Harris as “Vice President Trump” in answer to the very first question.
“After he was done speaking, three more House members joined the ranks of elected Democrats calling for Mr. Biden to end his campaign,” the Times reported. That brings the total to 18 Democrat lawmakers calling for Biden’s exit.
Following the press conference, one of those lawmakers, Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.), told MSNBC: “What Americans feel in their bones right now suggests not only that Joe Biden would lose this race, but that [Democrats] would lose the Senate and the House.”
Democrats are panicking because recent polling indicates that even deep blue states like New York are looking competitive for Trump.
“I truly believe we’re a battleground state now,” Democratic Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine told Politico.
Biden claimed during his presser, however, that polls showing former President Donald Trump ahead in the race are false and inaccurate.
According to CNN, both former President Barack Obama and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) have expressed reservations behind the scenes about Biden remaining at the top of the ticket, with Obama supposedly taking a “hands-off” approach.
Others, like MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, say Obama’s the one orchestrating the rebellion to oust his former vice president.
“What’s going on behind the scenes is the Biden campaign and many Democratic officials do believe that Barack Obama is quietly working behind the scenes to orchestrate this,” the “Morning Joe” host said.
Obama has appeared with Biden at two fundraising events this year, including at the Los Angeles fundraiser with actor George Clooney last month, where Biden appeared confused and disoriented. Democrats and their media allies at the time lambasted conservative media for pointing this out, accusing them of disseminating “deep fakes.”
After Biden’s catastrophic performance at the June 27 debate made it clear to over 50 million viewers that Biden is mentally impaired, Democrats and their allies in the media switched gears and acknowledged that not all is well with their party leader.
Earlier this week, Clooney admitted that he was alarmed by how Biden carried himself at the fundraising event and called for Biden to step down in an influential a NYT oped.
Sources told Politico Clooney and his close friend Obama were in touch before the piece was published.
Meanwhile, former Trump speechwriter Stephen Miller is warning that no dirty trick is too low for the corporate media to seize upon to help Democrats remain in power.
“Dear everyone: please don’t forget the corporate press will do everything in its power, and deploy every hoax and deceit over the next four months, to keep Democrats in power,” Miller wrote on X. “It will be relentless and ruthless.”
Update:
High profile Michigan democrats Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Sen. Gary Peters, Rep. Elissa Slotkin, and UAW President Shawn Fain did not attend any of Biden’s campaign events in Michigan, Friday.
Instead he had backbencher Reps. Debbie Dingell, Haley Stevens and Shri Thanedar campaign for him at a rally in Detroit.
Biden held his rally at Renaissance High School in Detroit, Michigan, a venue that has a maximum capacity of 600. It looks like a significant portion of the gym was closed off for media.
Trump drew thousands of supporters at his most recent rally at his sprawling Doral golf club in Florida, Tuesday.
